My attempt to do a reusable ship capable to reach LKO with a 10 tons payload in SpaceX Style.

It can carry up to 3 kerbals in a luxurious air conditionned capsule and can dock to a 1.25m docking port.

Superdraco engines on the dragon 2 are replaced by 8 24-77twitch engine which aren’t as powerfull as they should , so it hasn’t the escape system feature.
Merlin 1D engine are replaced by the monstrous Vector which provide enough thrust to desintegrate the launcher with g-forces, so be carefull.
since there is no fins in ksp stock, i used winglets which are disabled for the ascension phase, remember to activate them manually at apoapsis.
i used A.I.R.B.R.A.K.E.S to help the craft to slow down but it should not go under 250m/s .

Launching this ship is pretty simple :
1-Install the kerbals
2-Deploy landing legs
3-Decouple and take the lauch tower away
4-SAS on and throttle up to 33%
5-Go straight up until your apoapsis reach 60 km ( no gravity turn or you will not have enough fuel to land the launcher)
6-Decouple second stage and put it in orbit
7-Launcher should begin to fall down by this time , activate fins and airbrakes and activate RCS
8-Manoeuver it to your landing site , deploy landing legs , shut down the 8 externel vector
9-Pray the kerbal gods to succes without exploding the landing legs.

  • Type: VAB
  • Class: ship

A stock rocket called Falcon 9 Full thurst + Dragon 2 + launch tower. Built with 221 of the finest parts, its root part is Mark1-2Pod.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.2.0.

Craft issues:
- 8 landing legs instead of 4 and they are very fragile
- color of the craft
- launcher is very hard to control at very low speed during landing
- dragon 2 should jetisson heatshield to deploy landing legs
- not enought Delta V but i can’t add more without destroying the look of it
- no engine powerfull enough to make the escape system

This craft was built during the pre-release phase of KSP more info
