Description

Around two years ago I returned to the Dream Catcher project. The orginal DC-5 could make it to to Duna off a refilled tank of gas but I was never happy with it so I never posted it. Yet something about the program stuck with me and I never gave up. After a long list of refinements brought from many flights. Before you is the Dream Catcher 5 Delta, Flight Article: Pathfinder

With good planning there’s not many places she can’t go (Its Eve, don’t go to Eve…). The main feature the big bird has up its sleeve is the ability to land on planets, regardless of atmosphere. Duna is a regular destination as it requires no LKO refueling to get there even with a full payload bay. Lathe is tough as she isn’t an SSTO, but with just the right fuel load she can make it back into orbit for a return trip.

as for wrapping your head around how to fly it: by default the rear two adapter tanks are locked off the save fuel for Extra Terrestrial landings. When on approach fly it as you would any plane keeping it nice and level and bleeding off speed as need be, if you are landing in a no atmosphere enviroment, Do the oppsite and come in backwards to kill your speed down to 3-200m/s with the nuclear engines and then turn around to face foward. Now that you are in the terminal stage of the landing. Hit #3 to activate your rear facing RS-25 engines and kill your foward speed. shortly afterwords, use #2 to activate vertical thrusters, #5 toggles the Vernor RCS thrusters for more control (know that they are on be default). keep switching 2 and 3 as needed till you’ve completeled your landing. she’s fairly sturdy for her size so have some fun with it.
