Description

The BAK DUNABEE-1 is an ultra-light VTOL spaceplane probe built for Duna. It carries all the resettable experiments and has enough dV to do at least one biome hop before returning to orbit – or maybe a half-dozen, if you choose to remain on the surface.

She is a VTOL craft with almost perfectly neutral weight distribution and negligible mass shift as tanks deplete. When fully fuelled, her glide angle on Duna resembles that of a sack of potatoes; therefore, it is highly recommended that you do not attempt to finesse the landing, but bring her down vertically. She has a control point set up specifically for the purpose.

DUNABEE-1 was built with a novel construction technique. The technical bits are housed inside a teardrop-shaped aeroshell which snaps onto the Mk 1 utility bay for easy maintenance.

Default action set:

1 - Rockets forward
2 - Rockets down
8 - Control point up
9 - Control point rear
0 - Control point forward
Forward/Back - Adjust rocket angle

Action set 1 (Science):
1 - Temperature reading
2 - Pressure reading
3 - Seismographic reading
4 - Graviton reading
5 - Atmosphere analysis
9 - Dump experiments
0 - Transmit data

(Note: I clipped cheerfully through the Mk 1 bay to work around the limitations of stock KSP’s aerodynamics model – the way it’s built, all that stuff appears to the aerodynamics model to be inside the Mk 1 bay, so it really has the aerodynamics you would expect. I’m using the volume inside the NCS adapter and nose cone. Cheaty techniques for a result that has more verisimilitude than building this right…)

A stock aircraft called DUNABEE-1. Built with 45 of the finest parts, its root part is ServiceBay.125.v2.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.9.0.
