Duna Orbital SkyCrane

The Duna Orbital SkyCrane is the atmospheric upgrade to the previous moon variant of the concept.

DOSC is capable of lifting 40t to orbit from the surface of Duna and is primarily used to transport base components over great distances.

The design features 4 ‘Swivel’ engines mounted on servos to allow the vehicle to operate in both horizontal and vertical modes. The craft is intended to be used primarily in it’s horizontal mode on both the surface and on orbit however by making use of it’s ‘Launch Flip’ maneuver, the vehicle can reduce drag and save fuel. The aerodynamic shape of the craft also allows it to make use of the atmosphere on reentry for both added crossrange and speed reductiong.
