I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for the Sky Girls anime series. Partly because I actually made one of the available subtitles for that series (years ago, under a completly different internet handle). So when I got a badass female pilot whose name is Eika -just like Eika Ichigo, one of the Sky Girls trio (later quartet) of protagonists-, I just knew what I had to do…

From episode 1 of the series. Notice the forward-swept wings.

Note that KSP does NOT have stock landing gear that comes sideways like this plane does. At first I was planning to use a robotic contraption to diagonally extend a piston ending on a vertical wheel. Which I thought would be properly Kerbal.
Then, just for laughs, tried simply angling the landing gears and launched the craft, just to remind me why it would never work.
Worked like a charm.
And, obviously, THAT was the most Kerbal solution.

From eps. 1 and 26 of the series (reused shot). Notice the sharply angled tricicle gear.

Description

Eika Ichigo’s plane in the series Sky Girls is never given a name, we’re calling here Ichigo’s plane in a fit of originality.

Action Groups:
AG1: Afterburners
Abort: They have lots of power and mobility, so you tend to rely on those too much. I just took advantage of that.

A stock aircraft called Ichigo’s plane. Built with 51 of the finest parts, its root part is Mk1FuselageStructural.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.12.2.

From episode 26 of the series. Notice the plane is the unholy union of a Phantom and a Berkut.

Details

  • Type: SPH
  • Class: ship
  • Part Count: 51
  • Pure Stock
  • KSP: 1.12.2

Eika Kerman stats, in case someone wants the full deal.

From episode 26 of the series: Eika uttering the quote of the action groups. Also, notice the triangle tricicle gear.

From episode 1 of the series: Eika, learning the hard way what would later be her signature move. Also, notice the front-mounted avionics suite.

name = Eika Kerman
gender = Female
type = Crew
trait = Pilot
brave = 1
dumb = 0.337519825
badS = True

EDIT: Since I got asked this IRL…Eika’s signature move is basically a very extreme braking. There are multiple airbrakes hidden in the craft to enable the move.

If you think the pilot suits of the two pilots of the center bottom photo look like out of the legendary videogame Gradius, that’s because they are: the series was sponsored by Bandai and they made no other than the very iconic Vic Viper to be the series’ heavy fighter. It’s against two Vic Vipers in mock dogfight that Eika uses her old fighter and signature move in the series finale.
If you desire, you can reenact that scene using volapong’s own Vic Viper replica

Many of the craft I post are made with or by my 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14-old daughter - and it shows in the… peculiar humor of some of them.
