stock+DLC lifter
#rocket #thor #agena #corona #stock

A stock rocket called Thor-Agena-A. Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.12.4, with 45 of the finest parts, its root part is probeCoreOcto2.v2.

A hangar 3 (missile stand) replica for the USAF Museum Replica Collection forum thread by Mars-Bound Hokie.

This one is based on the earliest versions converted into lifters for the CORONA C classsified surveillance sats (incl 90, peri 185, apo 278). It includes a mock CORONA C with -working- film return vehicle.

Note that dimensions are intentionally smaller than the original, as a full size version would send the payload out of the Kerbin solar system. On top, both fuel capacity and engine thrust have been limited. Even so, it greatly outperforms the original.

  • Type: VAB
  • Class: lifter
  • Part Count: 45
  • Pure Stock
  • KSP: 1.12.4

Typical ascent to 185x278 km polar orbit
  • SAS stabilize, throttle full
  • stage
  • at 70 m/s switch to SAS SRF PRG
  • stage when empty
  • cut throttle when Ap reaches 285-290 km
  • coast while Ap drops to ~278 km
  • circularize to the typical 278x185 km orbit

CORONA C satellite would remain attached to the Agena-A stage, which provided long-term battery power and precision guidance / orbit adjustments. Later versions would be more autonomous and decouple.

Don’t take anything too seriously, I’m mostly just having crazy fun testing the (im)possibilities of flight, physics and design in the amazing sandbox that is Kerbal Space Program. Feedback is welcome!
