A stock aircraft called DockSuspensionRover1. Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.2.0 with 51 of the finest parts, its root part is probeCoreOcto.
This is an attempt at manipulating or circumventing the forced wheel auto-strutting, which prevents a structural suspension (based on flexible docking port joints) from working due to the added rigidity.
The ‘trick’ is to add the heaviest part (a filled ore tank) to the wheel assembly, so the autostrut stays on the wheel side of the suspension.
It is not clear from some testing whether this works or not.
- Type: SPH
- Class: rover
- Part Count: 51
- Pure Stock
- Squad (stock)
Don’t take anything too seriously, I’m mostly just having crazy fun testing the (im)possibilites of flight, physics and design in the amazing sandbox that is Kerbal Space Program. Feedback is welcome!
