Description

Maybe this was a little ambitious, but ambition brings progress, eh? Su-jets are just awesome, aren’t they? I figured they make good candidates to practice jet designs in FAR, and the Su-30 has a lot of good going for it. Sure, there are more modern versions - even backward wings on the Su-47, but the 30 has a simple-enough form that can be translated into KSP FAR with relative ease. Like, this didn’t take me that long to build - 4 attempts at the Su-27 made sure of that, which is great because it offered time to learn to fly it. I’ve got a lot of work to do in FAR, that’s for sure. At least, though, I can build planes that actually fly and land; a step in the right direction. Let alone, I think they look good. This one takes off at about 80m/s, but doesn’t pitch much passed 45° at initial climb (not that you’d need to anyway). I wanted to build it to match the flight characteristics of the real deal (what I could surmise from video and text, anyway) and, frankly, it isn’t quite there. Don’t get me wrong, it flies; but for those slick, tight maneuvers, it’ll need work. That’s where y'all come in!

I’m working on getting better at using FAR to design aircraft, but it’s tough without feedback. For all intents and purposes, this plane works - from take off to landing. Does it preform exactly like the real thing? Well, no. Soon, I may make a forum post for some feedback, but this is gonna have to do for now.

Let me mention its nuance: between 130 - 200 m/s, she waggles - shown by the dip on the curve. I couldn’t figure out how to fix this, but it is worth noting that the only true adverse effect is the plane trying to maintain level. In some respects, this is a good thing, sure, but I was attempting to give it tight maneuverability at that relative velocity range, and, well, I don’t know what to tweak. Bottom line: it’s an awesome jet and flies very well, just don’t expect it to win a dogfight.
