Stuff To Read Up On
The KF20R is designed to send 7 Kerbals to any LKO destination, with the capability to return them softly* to the ground once their mission is complete. If you take a relatively steep ascent profile (see video), you should be able to very easily* reach orbit and splash-land the First Stage within a single launch. The middle stage is disposable - using a little fuel* it can be easily de-orbited, unless you want to burn it all because you have an unholy craving for Delta-V. Once you’ve completed your mission (be it orbital snack reviews, visiting Jeb’s tiny capsule or even, if you’re feeling really NASA-ish, scientific research), you can de-orbit the C.A.R.L pod and land it under rocket power* in the sea just behind the strip of land you were meant to land on. If you’re utterly hopelessly miserably terrible at powered descents, there’s parachutes, but for oceanic landings you’ll still need a quick burn just before you splash to stop the 4 Kerbals in the boot** meeting a watery demise.
A stock rocket called KF-20R ‘Halo’. Built with 140 of the finest parts, its root part is Mark1-2Pod.
Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.1.2. *actual experience my vary depending on your skill **boot = trunk for all you yee-haw cowboy American folk ;)

Below are images of the CARL pod module docked to different things. Included is an SSTO rescue mission, large near-polar-orbital station and smaller (as featured in video), equatorial space station.
