Next-Generation Tomcat
The F-14 Tomcat was the plane which first sparked my
interest in stock hinges, so it seems fitting that I keep
coming back to it as my skills improve. This is my third
version of the iconic fighter, featuring increased
maneuverability, more reliable swing wings, and increased
visual acuity, all with lower part count.
Flying the Tom
The F-14 is a ton of fun to fly, even when you’re not buzzing the tower at KSC.
Swing wings: This mechanism is much sturdier than those that came before it. Feel free to sweep the wings in whatever maneuver you want - it probably won’t break. Action group 1 sweeps the wings, while 2 extends them.
Spoilers and Tailhook: To assist in short-field landings, Abort toggles the tailhook, and RCS toggles the spoilers. Stall speed for this F-14 is just under 60m/s, and it handles wonderfully at low speeds, thanks to the all-moving tail.
