The Aardvark
In the 1960’s, just after the F-4 Phantom entered service with the Marines, Air Force, and Navy, Robert McNamara and his DoD put the requirements together for a next-generation strike fighter. It was to fill the carrier air defense role for the Navy and the penetration fighter-bomber role for the Air Force. The Tactical Fighter Experimental competition eventually led to the F-111A Aardvark, but the F-111B Aardvark has its own history. I’ve got a big old video with the whole story, so sit back and enjoy!
