The Icon Herself

Call it the Dakota, Skytrain, DC-3, or C-47, Douglas’s classic transport aircraft, is an icon of aviation in every sense of the word. Over 16,000 examples were built, primarily Dakota and Skytrain military variants during WWII; however, postwar they could be found in every corner of the globe as airliners or cargo haulers; on wheels, skis, or floats; and in both military or civilian roles.

Because of this ubiquity, the aircraft was emblematic of aviation as a whole, becoming the symbol for a generation of flight.

Elegance in Simplicity

It might be surprising that such a seemingly simple aircraft became so iconic, but that simplicity is exactly the reason for its ascension. It was exactly what it needed to be, and nothing more.

The same can be said for this replica. The trend as of late with stock replicas seems to be intricate, increasingly high part count builds packed with detail at the expense of poor people like myself’s ability to actually fly the planes. I tried to make this craft as a counterpoint - every part has a function, and every function adds to the final craft. As the adage goes - perfection comes when there is nothing less to take away.

But this doesn’t mean that this replica is simple - it’s packed with details and functions:
* Custom Landing Gear
* Accurate Split Flaps
* Detailed Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Engines
* Pitot Tubes and Radio Antennae

All of this is packed into a CPU-friendly 400 parts and my classic focus on smooth lines and accuracy to the real deal.
