The One-Oh Wonder

The F-101 Voodoo, part of the Century Series of the U.S. Air Force, served as a supersonic bomber escort, fighter jet, and reconnaissance aircraft. The Voodoo’s first prototype, known as the XF-88, sported fantastic supersonic capabilities, but was scrapped after the start of the Korean War. Unfortunately, only two XF-88 were built.

In 1952, however, McDonnell received a contract to develop the F-101, derived from the original prototype. The large engines and engineering choices made to increase supersonic performance proved effective, as the Voodoo set several speed records, including the new absolute world speed record of 1,207.6 mph in December of 1957.

The Voodoo was the flagship recon aircraft of the United States during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and flew 82 missions at low altitude to avoid Soviet surface to air missiles.

The Replica

This craft is a mashup of different building techniques from many of my craft, and I tried to make it as smooth and accurate as possible. Unfortunately, precision brings 200 part drop tanks and a lot of lag. Nevertheless, the thing still flies. Feel free to increase fuel storage as it is set to only have a flight time of around 6 minutes on download.
