Effective, Proven, Trusted.
During the late 1970’s, many European air forces started to realize that their fighter aircraft began to fall behind new designs by other superpowers. The F-15, F-16, MiG-29 and Su-27 all proved more powerful than European Jaguar or Harrier aircraft. By the early 1980’s, Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain began to collaborate on the plan for a new fourth-generation fighter aircraft. The program was christened EFA (European Fighter Aircraft) and development of the Typhoon began in November of 1988. The aircraft was to be powered by two Eurojet EJ200 engines, feature a wide-angle display and a flight control system, as well as many other advanced avionics systems. The Royal Air Force flew its first Typhoon in April of 1994, and the jet has remained in service as its main aircraft to this day. It is operated by 9 countries and widely renowned as a capable and reliable fighter aircraft.
