Description

Ever wanted a boat-plane?

How about a plane-boat?

Well… NOW YOU CAN HAVE BOTH! IN ONE!

Or is it all four in one?

I don’t really know what the selling point is anymore. I’m still confused about whether to nickname it Boaty McPlaneFace, or Planey McBoatFace.

The attached video (may or may not be uploaded yet, so be patient) is of the X-22 prototype technology demonstrator, and of course, the version you’ll be downloading is the production M-22, with a few refinements. The total number of boat engines have been increased by one (the centreline engine was OP, so I added another one because this is KSP) and the wing pod engines have been moved to a spot inside the pods making it less likely they’ll be destroyed on a bad landing.

Takeoff speeds on a runway are a nice clean 45-55. From the water, start yanking the stick back at about 38. You’ll pick up more speed as you get out of the soup. For landing, 50-60 is good on a runway, and on water, bring it down to about 45. Make sure you get a nice flare on those water landings, unless you’re TRYING to drown Kerbals. You murderer.

Action groups are easy for this one. [1] to toggle ALL the engines. Don’t worry about running the boat engines, they won’t actually do anything unless they’re in the water anyway. [2] will toggle reverse thrust for the main engine, [3] toggles the cockpit lights, [4] toggles the aviation lights, the landing lights are attached to the standard lights action group, and [5] will toggle the access ladder in case you want to go for a swim. Can Kerbals even swim?

Is there a mod for that?

I haven’t added any science packages, but I designed this specifically for those hard-to-reach places, like ‘splashed down in the mountains’ kinds of places. I’m sure it can’t be hard to attach some science to this rig.

Oh, did I mention that this thing picks up speed really fast, and is also incredibly agile?

You know what that means?

Tailslides, baby. Tailslides.

NOTE: If you have problems with making this craft work, please let me know in the comments, and I will help you.
