Widow..
Agile, fast, deadly.. Tho a revolutionary and bold design the The Widow pilot doesn’t know whats up or down half the time, he/she doesn’t need to.. The Widow flies itself.. Which begs the question.. Why put a pilot in there anyway? When faced with this question by the Kerbal Post, the KSC had but one answer.. Yes
..
Initially the idea was to relieve some of that bone crushing g’s and spins our Kerbals have to endure every day by having the pilots chair swivel freely and be held upright by gravity.. The idea was noble, but the science flawed, and on the first day of testing Valentina Kerman learnt a valuable lesson in the conservation of momentum, and that gravity can be a b****. Needless to say.. the cockpit was kept..
Its Agile..
Its fast!
ITS!….
…deadly.. mostly to the Pilot
<–Val is so over it..
KIDDING!! Look how happy she is! No one at KSC is ever unhappy, or unpaid, or unsafe, at all!
The Gist of it..
Its a Vtol (verticle up n downer).. obviously.. Tho The Widow has no semblance of up or down really as the electric motors swivel 360 degress to allow hovering in literally any orientation on the verticle axis and flying in any orientation on the horizontal axis.. But for the sake of.. noobs.. We added one controller to automatically alter between hover and fast forward flight mode, just make sure to have enough altitude before pressing said noob
button to engage horizontal flight..
The Buttons..
1- Toggle Reaction wheels (Keep on)
3- Antenna crosshair (Keep not.. on)
9- NooB!
0- Deploy blades
T- SaS (ON!)
Shift/ctrl- Throttle up/down
G- Cute little landing struts just look at them
K- Decrease blade pitch
I- Increase blade pitch
N- Swivel ducts forward
H- Swivel ducts backward
Widow gains speed much faster if blade pitch is manually adjusted(from hover 5 degrees blade pitch) as airspeed is increased, caps out at just over 930 Km/h or 260m/sec (fan ducts pitched 90degrees forward and blade pitch 45 degrees). Turning is slow at high speeds and continuous turning will drop speed to which blade pitch adjustment is needed again to gain speed quickly.. much like in real life. I learnt quite a lot about ducted fans building this bird.. and I hope you do too fellow Kerbanaut! Enjoy!
