Description
A mod rocket called Transferer + Bombardier. Built with 181 of the finest parts, its root part is fairingSize2.
Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.8.1.
How to fly this vehicle:
This is an RSS-class launcher made from Stock + Making History parts, intended for equatorial Geostationary orbit of a 20-tonne payload, or non-equatorial LEO with a payload of 96 tonnes maximum (87 with existing GEO transfer stage). You can try to use it on Kerbin but don’t blame me if it’s very overbuilt. It’s made for Earth. Download RSS and FAR for best results.
Launch procedure: start turn at 85-100 m/s. Yank over 10 degrees and then wait for prograde vector to catch up. Then lock SAS to prograde.
At roughly T+70 seconds, stage to start core engines.
Stage the SRBs when they burn out. Do not maneuver or you may collide with the SRBs, as they take several seconds to flee the vicinity of the craft using a single Sepratron each.
Try to ensure the Apogee is more than a minute and a half out by the time the liquid fuel boosters burn out. You may have to be 10-15 degrees above prograde for part of this stage.
Stage when the liquid booster run out to open fairing (you should be high enough that drag is minimal) and discard boosters.
Wait for the core stage to burn itself out. Ignore the Delta-V meter’s low numbers. It is wrong.
Start the upper stage. Align prograde until you reach Apogee. At this point, tilt 5 degrees above prograde, tilting further up at the very end. Try to keep your apogee going down, not up, to make your orbit as as circular as possible.
Cut throttle once your orbit is stable.
Go to GTO using what’s left of the upper stage, then the transfer vehicle. You will need to discard drop tanks as the fuel runs out. You should end up discarding 4 of the drop tanks in two staging events.
Combine your plane change and circularization burn for an ~1850 m/s burn from Cape Canaveral or Xichang launch sites which are latitude 28 degrees. Obviously this will vary for other launch sites. You will end up dropping the last drop tanks here.
You should have enough fuel left to reach zero inclination, zero eccentricity, perfect GTO. Keep in mind however that there is only engine gimbal for control so make sure any real payload has its own directional control so you don’t spend hours messing with it.
Decouple rocket stage. Warning: this will cause about 0.2 m/s of Delta-V from the decoupler and adjust your orbit.
