Soyuz FG Rocket and Soyuz MS Ship (updated version)
A stock rocket called Soyuz MS/FG. Built with 182 of the finest parts, its root part is Mark1-2Pod.
So, I decided to give my Soyuz a reworked version. Originally I planned to just update my first one with improved boosters, but I made so many detail changes, that I decided to upload it again.
I nearly completely redesigned the boosters, so they look a lot better now, also their engines are now correctly angled. This version also has new engines at the centre tank of the first stage which are a bit more powerful, so now you can perform a gravity turn already at 10-15km, but I would definitely reccommend 15+. The second stage also got new engines, more powerful, and more optical correct according to the real Soyuz, which had an engine with four combustion chambers.
The capsule itself has become a new engine apron, a new radar-antenna for docking (toggle ‘2’) and overall a more realistic size ratio.
All in all, I am happy with the result. Here is the description part from the old one, that also fits to this rocket:
The Soyuz was after the Vostok and Voskhod Ships a completely new design and since its development back in the 1960’s it keeps beeing in service and has undergone loads of modifications and modernisations.
Currently it is the only system capable of launching astronauts and Kosmonauts to the ISS. Soyuz is known for its reliability, safety and simple construction, the Soyuz rocket itself is like its predecessors based on the R-7 intercontinental nuclear missile.
My version is capable of reaching LKO at ease, but I recommend not to perform a gravity turn too early (as mentioned above), because Soyuz is in real aswell as in KSP not the most powerful rocket you might think of. Also, because its got so many parts and engines, loading it from the VAB onto the Launchpad takes some time and smashes down the FPS a bit on launch. Anyway it is very stable during every phase of flight and easy to control and as soon as the boosters are detached, things calm down to normal and you can enjoy your flight.
It also features a Launch Escape System, which can be activated by pressing 1, afterwards you just have to hit space bar for staging until the parachutes are deployed.
Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.3.1.
If, for apparently no reason I can imagine, you wanna check out my old Soyuz, you’ll find it there:
