Description

A 1:1 replica of the Atlas LV-3B with a proper 1.5 stage design made with procedural parts only. Like the real-life atlas, this atlas replica uses a more rudimentary form of avionics, the Mechjeb classic ascent profile since 1.5 stages don’t work well with PVG. Separate the booster stage at 2:05 or an Ap of 140km for best results. The optimal ascent parameters are in the photos, and can be changed slightly, but i would only advise raising or lowering the orbit altitude or increasing the turn shape to a max of 45%. Getting the flight profile is important as it will literally insert with only a few m/s of Dv left. With the parameters provided, you will get into a 200km by 155km orbit. I’ve included a discrete “kickstage” if you were unable to achieve orbit with the Atlas, or you can use it to get into more hyperbolic orbits and rendezvous. The dimensions are almost exact, only the engine variants are different because the TWR was way to high on the actual engines used on the rockets. Have fun with your Mercury-Atlas projects!

A mod rocket called Atlas LV-3B. Built with 33 of the finest parts, its root part is ROC-MercuryRetro.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.8.1.
