mod aircraft

The Rockwell XFV-12 was a prototype supersonic United States Navy fighter which was built in 1977. The XFV-12 design attempted to combine the Mach 2 speed and AIM-7 Sparrow armament of the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II in a VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) fighter for the small Sea Control Ship which was under study at the time. On paper, it looked superior to the subsonic Hawker Siddeley Harrier attack fighter. However, it proved unable to produce enough thrust for vertical flight, even with an installed engine delivering more thrust than its empty weight, and the project was abandoned.

The boys at Rockwell are seriously insane…..just the engineering aspect of this craft is mind blowing. The amount of effort it takes just to lift off the ground and all the control surface action is an achivement in itself. Sadly the project never did get off the ground IRL, although it still remains a technological marvel for its time.

So to fly it … Ya…. SAS…Space… AG1 fwd VTOLs AG2 aft VTOL … about ¾ power will get you off the ground…be careful with the throtle its very touchy…I would recommend flying this with Atmo Autopilot Mod …but thats just me….it does fine with Stock SAS…..Once in the air with proper ALT Hit AG2 Kills aft VTOL THEN AG1 FWD VTOL….in that order…or else youll flip. Thats about it…
