Description
An electric contratrotating turboprop loosely (VERY loosely, it’s insanely powerful) based on the Kuznetsov NK-12. It has insase thrust, and acceleration in it’s operating speed range, at least in FAR. Might desintegrate on the stock aero system due to drag.
<FAR bonkers performance>
In FAR two of these can push a 100 ton plane at Mach 1.3, somehow (the blades don’t have drag in FAR). Don’t timewarp, basically.
<Thrust Curve>
Has a very, very basic throttle KAL curve for blade pitch, trying to mimic a real propeller. Very twitchy on the throttle, thanks to KSP prop dynamics. Has a bit of reverse thrust, followed by a big region of feathering at 0ยบ deploy angle to make it easier to hit, a large low
thrust zone, and the insane thrust (at 0 speed) at the higher end of the throttle lever.
Meant for heavy lift VTOL’s, so it has autostrut and rigid attachment on every needed part, somewhat part optimized. I don’t know if the stock aero model or the Breaking Ground robotics can handle the maximum thrust for VTOL takeoff.
<PROBLEMS>
Can and will induce fligth control problems like:
- Uncomanded Pitch Ups / Downs if the engines are not aligned properly with the CoM and CoL, or vertically offset withouth anything to counter them (in case they don’t fit under the wings, as they are BIG compared to Kerbal’s part scale)
- A bit of induced roll at low speeds, even if I tried to cancel the torque with the contrarotating setup
- Sudden unscheduled dissasembly :)
<COOL STATS!>
- 6.2 m diameter
- Cool contrarotating effect with the improvised Procedural Parts Farings (they SPIN IN OPOSITE DIRECTIONS HOW COOL IS THAT and with Textures Unlimited they are shiny)
- If the blade menu is to be believed, ~92 KN per blade at 0 speed and max throttle. IDK, that sounds very fake, as it would mean 730 KN at full power.
<don’t timewarp :)>
So yeah, don’t timewarp. Have fun! Or, enjoy seeing it doing a speen.
33 parts, root is proceduralStructural.
