This aircraft is a blend between an airplane and an helicopter. It has both fixed and rotary wings. The fixed wings are used in forward flight while the rotor is used for vertical takeoff and landing. During forward flight, the rotor is shut down to reduce fuel consumption and eliminate dissymmetry of lift caused by the rotating wing. Also, there are 2 claws to redock the rotor so that the aircraft can be reloaded without breaking.

It’s perfect when you need the range of an airplane but the safety of vertical landing of an helicopter. I’m thinking about those survey missions on the surface of rough terrain such as mountains. Now those stressful landings are things of the past ! Fly (and land) safe :-)

Performance

Speed: 200 m/s
Range: 1000 km + (can reach the north pole easily)

Flight instructions

Stage to decouple the rotor then use actions groups to toggle engines.
Be sure to have enough speed before shutting down the rotor.
Wait for the rotor to slow down before arming the claws.
Press [ to see if the rotor is well docked. If not, turn the rotor slowly and it should dock.
There is no ladder so retract the front gear to access the hatch.
Do not exit the aircraft while the rotor is turning or you will see why it’s called a chopper.

Note

This is just an experimental aircraft to explore the concept of airplane / helicopter hybrid and has probably a lot of room for improvement.
