This aircraft is my take on the Soviet M-25 (image below).
I had trouble finding details on the aircraft, but according to a reddit post by u/Sierra-2674, the M-25 was
… a project by the Soviet Union in the 1960s. The idea was of a low altitude infantry killer - via shock wave, by flying supersonic at 90 to 120 feet above the enemy troops. Project was cancelled in 1973.
The only other mention of it I could find was on a SecretProjects post from 2008, which explains the
M-25, project of low altitude infantry killer - via shock wave, while flying supersonic 30-50 meters above the enemy troops. Project was cancelled in 1973 after it became clear that Chinese government understood that attempts to disturb big bear can be dangerous, and finally declassified this year.
My Kerbalized version of the M-25 is a lot more successful than the real one was. The not-so-creatively named Hypersonic Shockwave Attacker can fly at well over mach 5, and can maintain nearly mach 5.4 at 50% throttle.
To most effectively attack any one location on kerbin, fly at low altitude until you’re a little over mach 5, and then make a shallow-ish climb that puts you on a ballistic trajectory toward your target. If you do it right, you will shoot yourself into space. Try and reenter the atmosphere a little bit short of the target so you have time to regain some of the speed you lost during your climb and reentry.
I’d like to thank HB Stratos for suggesting on my discord server that someone build the M-25.
