Requires docking with port section (Hanger Port Mk3s).

Ascent

• Requires Direct Ascent (straight up).
  • Turn on SAS and RCS
• At 30km (30,000 meters) click Prograde button and switch to Orbital mode, starting a gravity turn.
  
  • Toggle to Orbital mode by clicking the Nav Ball Surface m/s display.
• Follow orbital prograde vector and continue to burn and stage until time to apoapsis is greater than 2 minutes, or greater than 90km. Then raise perigee above 70km and circularize orbit.

Rendezvous & Docking

• Watch your fuel. If you don’t have delta V tools, you may want to refuel first.
  • With less than a 2 degree plane change and a Holman transfer you should be fine.
• Match orbital planes with Port Carrier section then Rendezvous.

  • Also you may need to time warp a few orbits to get a rendezvous. Check each orbit by dragging your maneuver node around the orbit. Advance to the next orbit if there is no good rendezvous.
• Dock with just eyeballing the alignment of all 4 docking ports or use the mod Navball Docking Alignment Indicator. Remember to disengage SAS right before connecting. The better the alignment the better the mate.

Recommended Mods

• No mods are required. As with any carrier you will need to be comfortable with rendezvous, docking, and transferring fuel.

  • I always test (and dock) with no mods. But I do prefer mods so I don’t have to keep tweaking nodes or flipping screens.

• MechJeb2 (for delta V display, Holman transfer timing calculations, closest approach display, and orbital inclination)

• Navball_Docking_Alignment_Indicator_CE (more precise docking)

• TacFuelBalancer (transferring fuel to all fighter fuel tanks in one go)
