Description
A mod aircraft called Laythe EagleStar. Built with 369 of the finest parts, its root part is an OPT Stail Class Cockpit.
Built in the SPH in KSP version [1.3].
This huge 1000T OPT SSTO seaplane carries and OPT Explorer aircraft on its deck and a Reckon Satellite in the cargo hold.
-It has the capability to take off from Kerbin runway, fly to Laythe and ditch to Laythe sea without refueling.
-The Explorer can be launch from main deck and docked in Space for Kerbin Return
-Explorer has Laythe orbit capability with its main OPT J61 engine and its 2 MRS nuke engines
-Satellite can be launched from Cargo hold. It is fully equipped to scan any planet.
-Eaglestar includes an OPT lab, behind the cockpit, with 4 crew members and a lot of science stuff in the cargo hold.
-2 Ore tanks, a big Converter and 6 big drillers give you full converting and refueling capability with the help of a strong electric network.
-A fuel line can be use to refuel any aircraft provided it gets a plug. For that you need KAS mod which is not reported in the mods table
Laythe Eaglestar has been designed and tested in a flight enveloppe from ground to 65 kms with CorrectCol mod to assure that it is balanced in this whole enveloppe
But it’s hardly recommended to use Atmospheric Autopilot mod to fly it manually by wire as it is a huge aircraft with a lot of inertia during flight.
-All tanks must be balanced for flight
For Kerbin launch:
-All Explorer tanks and Satellite tanks are closed.
-Explorer and satellite engines are shut down
-Explorer flight controls are inactivated
Kerbin take off
-Use Cockpit RCS to help rotation at 140m/s
-You can use Pilot assistant to help for the following
-Pitch 35° to 7000m, then 15° to 17000m, and 6° from 21000m, 5° on final
-Light on MRS nuke engine at 25000m to reach mach 6
-After 40000m you can engage Mechjeb if necessary and RCS may be needed.
Mechjeb: force roll climb 0° and correct steer gain 1
See the take off to to orbit here
https://youtu.be/wHTAXw6fHlo
For Re-entry
- use RCS
-Retrograde on back (Force roll 180° on Mechjeb SAS) up to Periapsis -180 kms
-At 45kms flip to Radial position (force roll 0°)
See here

Ditching on Laythe
-Aircraft will be very light
-around 90-100m/s final speed
-4m/s vertical speed
-Gear down when ditched help braking
See here:

Explorer launch on sea from deck
-Activate Explorer flight Controls
+Fin:Pitch and Yaw 100% - no roll
+Vertical Stabilizer: Pitch and Yaw 50% only, no roll
+Ailerons: Roll 100% No pitch, no yaw
-Open all tanks
-Explorer gear down, Laythe Eaglestar gears up
-Explorer J61 engine shut down and thrust verified 100%
-Click control from here
from Explorer Cockpit
-Speedbrakes up
Launch Laythe Eaglestar on sea
Around 120m/s, action group 3 will
-decouple docking ports and free Explorer
-start on J61 Explorer engines
-Shut down all Eaglestar engines
Explorer will start to move an as its relative speed is near take off speed you just have to pull smoothly on pitch to be airborne
On Explorer take off, be smooth on pitch to avoid breaking Eaglestar cockpit
Once in flight set pitch control to 100% and balance fuel
Launching procedure on first vid
Explorer launch to Laythe orbit/
-Keep only 25 to 30% fuel, otherwise it will be to heavy
-at 6000m accelerate using vertical speed 10m/s
-When speed is enough set pitch to 10°, then use 20° and 30°
-Open nukes around 22000m
You can see all pics and vision the Eaglestar adventure to Laythe

Eaglestar: 1200km at 30km-33kms Cruise altitude with 10% fuel left, guess it can
be better at 35/38 kms cruise
Explorer 1650 kms at 35-38 kms Cruise altitude with 20% fuel left
