The Titan rocket family began like many as ICBMs, the Titan I which was deployed from 1959 to 1965 and the Titan II which was deployed from 1963 until 1987. The Titan II was also modified into a reliable launch vehicle including twelve Gemini Launch Vehicles (GLV) which were all successful. The Titan II continued as a payload launcher with the decommissioned ICBMs converted into launch vehicles and used as recently as 2003.

The Titan III was developed as a heavy lifter which used a modified Titan II as the core stage and would use a variety of boosters and upper stages. It eventually lead to the operational Titan III-C and its variants which were reliable launch vehicles used by NASA and the DoD until the mid 1990s. The Titan III-A was a prototype used to test out the modified Titan II core stage with the Transtage upper stage which eventually had 41 successful missions until being retired in 1989.

The Prometheus III-A is a modification of the Bluedog Design Bureau’s Prometheus III which is their approximation of the Titan III launch vehicle. It simply uses the modified Titan II core with the Metis upper stage to test out the Metis upper stage in orbit. Since this is a prototype rocket it’s really not an efficient launcher but I’ve simply built it for austerity. Nevertheless I have included a small test payload to better control the rocket during its mission.

The flight profile is similar to the Prometheus II with the lower stage putting the the vehicle into the upper atmosphere after which the second core stage takes over all the way into a parking orbit. The Metis transtage is nominally part of your mission payload. Since this is a prototype rocket it has a somewhat inefficient thrust-to-weight ratio (TWR) during its ascent.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.4.4.
