There were a number of proposals for extended Gemini missions from when Gemini was merely conceived as a two-seater Mercury to the end of the program when Gemini engineers wanted to extend the life of their hardware. One of the ideas was the Gemini Pecan which would incorporate a habitat into an ATV (Agena Target Vehicle) and would use an inflatable airlock between the Gemini and habitat since there was no docking tunnel available for the Gemini. It could serve a number of functions from extended missions, research into astronauts living in space, or as an intermediate step before the Apollo program.

The Belle Habitat takes some of these ideas and expands the function of the Extended Belle Target Vehicle from one of my previous builds. It shortens the Belle’s liquid fuel tank to compensate for the extra weight of the habitat module in addition to the materials bay and lightning taken from the EBTV. I have also added a pair of fuel cells so that the Belle Habitat can be used for long-term missions or as a shelter in case of loss of the Gemini spacecraft.

The ascent procedure is more or less the same as any Muo craft but with a few changes. The first is that its recommended that the booster fairing be decoupled a little higher when you’re firmly in the upper atmosphere. The second is that the Muo lifter will only get the craft into the upper atmosphere after which the Belle engines have to take over for the rest of the ascent and orbital circularization. There should be about 300-400 dV left over once you have settled into orbit which is more than enough to change orbital parameters as needed and to eventually destroy the entire craft in a violent re-entry.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.3.0.
