The successful launch of the Ariane 1 rocket on Christmas Eve 1979 was the sorely needed success for Western European countries to finally have their own launch system and no longer needing to rely on the United States. The success heralded one of the most successful rocket families to date with the Ariane 4 being launched in 1988. It was one of the most successful rockets within the Ariane family and between 1988 and 2003 made 113 successful launches with only 3 failures. The 42P model made an addition of two small solid-fuel boosters which increased the payload capacity by about 25%.

The Aliyana 4-42P is an approximation of the Ariane 4-42P using primarily CONTARES parts which is rated to lift 2.5 tonne satellites into Kerbin Synchronous Orbit (KSO) at virtually any desired inclination. This is about a 25% increase over the Aliyana 4-40. I’ve included an experimental communication satellite which can pave the way for developing your own KSO communication network.

The first and most powerful stage is fired along with the booster stage. The booster stage should exhaust itself while you’re still in the lower atmosphere, somewhere around 4-5km. It is easily decoupled with the main stage continuing into upper atmosphere. The second stage is relatively short-lived and should will boost your payload past the edge of space. The third stage is built more for use in a vacuum and continues your direct ascent to Kerbin Synchronous Orbit (KSO) so you don’t need to plan on a parking orbit. It will also handle orbital circularization although its highly recommended that your payload include the ability to fine-tune its own final orbit.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.3.0.
