Japan’s reentry test article, designed to test its reentry heat shielding technology, such as carbon-carbon. It was launched in 1996, aboard the only ever J-I rocket from Tanegashima Space Center (site for the current H-IIA and H-IIB rockets), and reentered the atmosphere. It splashed down, but sank before it could be recovered.
J-I rocket not included.
