EveBlowfly
Cost: ~171k overall
Recovery: ~31k
Payload: 5 Kerbals
Rationale:
- SSTO - on Kerbin ;)
- Can’t make the Eve SSTOs work?
- Are you a shitty pilot?
- Just like me?
- This Eve ascending vehicle shall be fool-proof!
- Even I can fly it!
EveBlowfly procedures:
Take-Off (Kerbin):
- <2> to disengage rotors and close their bays
- Wait until all bumping and jumping is over
- <T> to activate SAS, <Y> for full throttle
- <3> to activate two of the Vectors
- At 100m/s pull up to 40° AoA
- Retract landing gear <G>
- Start observing apoapsis
- When it reaches 80km, put SAS on prograde, turn off Vectors <3> and thrust <X>
- Create maneuver node to circularize orbit in AP
- Execute maneuver node on single Vector <4>
Transfer to Eve:
- <0> to open small service bay
- <9> to inflate airlock
- Rendevouz with a transfer stage of your choice - I would use Pusher 3
Landing (Eve)
- Activate cooler <7>, close all bays, antenna, airlock, …
- Activate brakes, extend landing gear
- Either refuel completely before and brake by 1000m/s on Vectors …
- or burn 500m/s retrograde on Vectors
- Try coming in radial-out and bottom first
- If craft becomes uncontrollable, pump fuel in front of the rotors
- Activate rotor engines below 10km <1>, using
- deactivate the brakes <B>
- full thrust <Y> and
- approximately a deploy angle of -70 on the rotors <H>/<N>
- Safe landing speed is ~50m/s
- Brakes are effective!
- Do not forget to disengage rotors! <2>
Hints for Eve
- Transfer flights on Eve using the rotors may need you to use reserve fuel <6>
- Refuel using some ground station
- With the small service bay open <0>, <8> helps you getting Kerbals onboard
Take-Off (Eve)
- Disable side-to-mid cross feed <5>
- Activate cooler <7>, close all bays, antenna, airlock, …
- <1> to engage rotors and open the bays
- Open and fix stats of one rotor and one fan blade
- <B> loosen the brakes
- Put engines on full power <Y> and adjust rotors as needed <H>/<N>
- -68 fan blade deploy angle and 80m/s shoud be fine for take-off
- Climb to 12500m and try to go as fast as possible, maybe 130m/s
- Turn off rotors <2> and activate side vectors <3>
- Pull up to an AoA of 30-40°
- Stage <space> when out of fuel until middle vector is active
- Start observing apoapsis, cut off thrust <X> if it reaches 110km
- Quickly create circularization maneuver node
- Execute on Vector, stage to Terrier if needed
- Reserves should be plenty, 1900m/s left in 200x200km Eve orbit
Transfer to Kerbin:
- <0> to open small service bay
- <9> to inflate airlock
- Rendevouz with a transfer stage of your choice
- Remaining piece can nicely be landed on Kerbin docking it into the bay of a SpacePony
A stock aircraft called EveBlowfly.
Built with 118 of the finest parts, its root part is landerCabinSmall.
Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.9.1.
Acknowledgements:
No idea who invented the impellers you find in Eve planes regularly at the moment.
I found them on Mephisto’s Eve SSTO here and in that thread he linked.
But unfortunately I am to incapable to fly or even copy those masterpieces.
And I do not like heavy clipping.
So after this thing is now fool-proof, I thought I re-share it to help others as well.
