Description

Breakthrough landing can technology has been subverted for rover … -nay, helicopter cockpit purposes. Together with the new nav ball point up feature, can now use landing cans as space plane cockpits. This is not just a landing can, it’s a SSTO ascending can that gets to orbit from Kerbin. Perfect for quick getaways from persuing krakens.

A first in this company’s craft lineup, all engines (not counting SAS stabilizers) are used for VTOL or forward thrust. No more wasted engine dead weight. The push button VTOL transition mode is a simple case of getting to 1000m, lowering thrust to 75%, pressing 1, waiting for docking port to stop clipping top of cargo bay, pressing 2, waiting for VTOL to rotate forward, pressing 3 to close cargo bay doors, praying for engines to redock, pressing 4 to turn on all engines, pressing 6 to open spike air inlets if needed, pressing z for full thrust and finally right clicking on the FL-T100 fuel tank in front of the VTOL engines and choosing the first autostrut option. It’s just that easy! (OK, maybe not). No more switching probe cores and manually swivelling the engine to change from VTOL to horizontal mode. With VTOL engine docking ability, 100% of the fuel gets utilized.

Optional second stage is available which drops fuel tanks and wings in case you’re failing to reach orbit. Just don’t go doing it in atmosphere or you’ll flip head over heels.

VTOL docking port can be used for refuelling once in space and engines are in horizontal flight mode. Just be sure to open the docking bay doors. (Switching back to VTOL mode not tested but likely can only done in orbit by switching to probe core).

A stock aircraft called GET TO THE SPACE CHOPPA!. Built with 65 of the finest parts, its root part is mk2CargoBayS.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.7.0.

Note: Landing gear not available due to VTOL engine’s height. Adding large landing legs would have added too much weight. Use long ladder by cockpit door (in cargo bay) to board. Use engines as landing legs but land slow enough in VTOL mode to not damage them).
