Single-seat single engined fighter-bomber developed from the Vampire, which entered service in 1952. The Venom was used until 1962.

The Venom was a fast and maneuverable but cheap and reliable plane which filled an important gap in the RAF’s arsenal until newer, true supersonic jet fighters came into production. A two-seat version served briefly as a night-fighter, until replaced by the new Gloster Javelin. The Venom remained in service in other airforces worldwide, with the last being retired in the mid 1980s. Thanks to its highly aerobatic characteristics, a number of examples remain in airworthy condition as display aircraft.
