In need of a small, compact submarine capable of doing scout missions?

You’re in luck, because I just finished working on this thing! The story of this little sub is pretty interesting for a KSP craft. I was scrolling through KerbalX at one point, and noticed Smalltalk’s Explorer-Class Ship. Watercraft are quite interesting in KSP, so I thought to myself at that point: Can I make a small, fast and reliable submarine that’s fun to drive? Well here you go.

Characteristics

Power: 4 Junos and 1 Wheesley
Crew: 2
Delta V: 18445 m/s
Top speed: around 20 m/s level underwater, 25 at the surface (which is NUTS for a submarine)
Features: Retractable periscope with light, as well as a hatch for the top exit on the lander can.

Testing

At first I had problems with the amount of ore ballast needed to make it usable, but (hopefully) those issues have been solved.
Control was weird, but switching the lander can’s control point to forward rectified the problem.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s fun, and the periscope is pretty cute. The hatch works flawlessly, with decent performance on the vehicle’s part. Finally, as a personal thought, I thought this craft could be a good match with Smalltalk’s Explorer Class Ship. Certainly an interesting combo I might try at one point. Have Fun!
