Death from Above
General Overview
The XA-25 was developed after an urgent requirement for a fast, maneuverable and powerful ground-attack/heavy fighter to help defend ground forces using tactics like Close Air Support (CAS) and low-altitude tactical bombing missions that require efficiency and precision. Being not as prominent though, it does use a small amount of S.P.A design method.
Simplicity
Coming in at just over 100 parts, this technically complex aircraft still sits in the low-part count class, making it usable for more people. My original goal was under 100 parts but with all of the features I needed to cram into this plane that was just not possible.
Performance
The XA-25 is equipped with two Panther
afterburning turbojets that give it the power to accelerate to Mach 2.5 at altitude and to pull consistent 6G turns in combat. The combination of spoilers and large flaps on the wings give it a fairly short landing run and good low-speed handling.
Aesthetics
The design is loosely based off of the Mcdonnell Douglas F-18E Super Hornet, with its cliché large tail fins and long nose paired with thin, slender wings. For being only a single-seater It’s quite large, but is still compact enough to achieve practicality.
Final Thoughts
This plane was quite hard to get working right due to the inherent complexity of it’s systems, but using some clever design choices I was able to pull it off regardless. This aircraft would be an extremely valuable asset on the battlefield.
Have Fun Flying It!
