Description

Artemis 1 is the long-awaited first flight of the SLS/Orion. Projected to launch sometime in January/February 2022, the SLS will launch from Kennedy Launch Pad 39B and propel Orion around the Moon.

A stock rocket called Artemis 1 Orion-SLS. Built with 1084 of the finest parts, its root part is HeatShield3.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.12.2.

FLIGHT INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: THIS VERSION IS FOR PEOPLE WHO USE THE WATERFALL MOD!!

Launch phase
- Stage and max throttle
- Straight up until you reach 100 m/s
- Begin slow gravity turn, do NOT allow the attitude indicator (red arrow) out of the ring of the prograde indicator (green arrow), use SAS to hold prograde, or the rocket WILL flip out of control
- Aim for about 80km apoapsis
- Before igniting stage 2 engine,
press action group 0

Use the other version for people who don’t use Waterfall. It affects the action groups for whatever reason

ACTION GROUPS

2 - Release Cubesats (upper stage)
3 - Unlock solar panel hinges
4 - Deploy solar panels
5 - Rotate solar panels clockwise
6 - Rotate solar panels counterclockwise
7 - Separate command module
8 - Lock solar panel rotation
9 - Lock solar panel base hinge
10 - Upper stage nozzle extension

Orbital phase
- Press 3 and then 4 to open the solar panels
- Wait about 10s for spacecraft to stabilize, then press 3 again to lock the hinges
OPTIONAL: To move the solar panels forwards and backwards, toggle action group 9 to unlock the solar panel base hinge, then use H/N to move them
OPTIONAL: to rotate solar panels, toggle action group 8 to unlock them and press action group 5 or 6 to rotate
- Do your standard Mun transfer burns
OPTIONAL: switch to upper stage after decoupling it and press action group 2 to eject CubeSats (those aren’t actually functional they’re just for show)
- After returning from Mun, press action group 7 to eject capsule
- Hold retrograde SAS during reentry
