During the period of time when Aier Unlimited was bought out by Tarken, but production had not yet been set up for Tarken’s aircraft, a limited quantity of frankenstein-esque planes were created as testbeds for Au’s airframes.
The Au/Ta MGR expanded on the Au-400 airframe, and while it kept the wider nose and unconventional upper intakes, the tail was entirely replaced with a one seamless curved wing sweeping over the rear engines. The MGR supplied data regarding this type of wing, data that would be used for future box-wing designs by Tarken.
The MGR was not scrapped after its tests, and instead was donated to NASA, who would continue to modify the aircraft into multiple configurations over its lifetime as a research aircraft.
