Description
Here is a simple imitation of the Rosetta-Philae mission.
Being the first launch I ever followed in live, this flight own a specific place in my heart, and I wanted to try it in KSP since a long time.
My old Aridane 5ECA was obviously chosen, but to imitate the mission a bit more the fairing has been reduced to look a bit closer to the 5G+ variant, and the main engine had its thrust lowered, just like the Vulcain 1.
The Rosetta-like probe owns a bit more than 2 km/s of impulsion, while the lander is having more than 1.7 km/s available, more than enough to land on a small rock. Both of them are coming with their own set of probes and scientific instruments.
As Gilly was way too large for such a flight, I used the Realistic Ascension mod by lajoswinkler to imitate the Churyumov–Gerasimenko comet. Alas, the mod is lacking a graphical tail for now, and the best launch window is requiring a travel of 13 years before an encounter, at least.
Otherwise the whole craft could still be used for a flight to another body of the system with light gravity.
About the lander: - it is important to select the Control from here
of the lander’s horizontal control system, by zooming into it, or the system will read an erroneous information with a 90 degrees mistake.
- two engines are available, both on the Y-axis but with opposed thrust. The lower being attributed to the de-orbit maneuver and the traditional braking maneuvers, while the upper one is dedicated to stuck the lander at the surface of the comet. Believe me, the gravity on Ascension is terrible at the best with its 0.001, five times less than the doomed place known as Gilly.
As usual, all the action keys are listed at the top of the page.
A stock rocket called Ariadne 5G+ / Ptolemaios (Rosetta-Philae). Built with 163 of the finest parts, its root part is structuralPanel1.
Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.3.1.

48 images long album.
