Description

A true workhorse of a rocket for any space exploration program, capable of carrying a several-Kerbal capsule or large cargo ship up into orbit. The Koyuz MO-1 carries the Koyuz-MOK (Munniy Orbitalniy Korabl) spacecraft, a manned munar orbiter modelled after the real-life Soyuz 7K-LOK; like the 7K-LOK, it has a docking port specialised for the munar lander, uses fuel cells for electrical power rather than solar panels, and has increased propellant tankage for the munar mission.

Early Soviet plans for a lunar landing involved launching an orbiter, a lander, and an orbital transfer rocket stage on separate R-7-family launchers, rendezvousing them in orbit to assemble the complete lunar spacecraft, and then going to the moon. Later, this was replaced by plans to launch the whole thing at once, on the much larger N1 rocket, but the Soviets were never able to send cosmonauts to the moon in this manner because the N1 kept exploding, and they eventually scrapped their whole manned lunar landing programme. Ironically, the multi-R-7 mission profile, removed from consideration early on, would likely have been the approach with by far the greatest chance of success! The Koyuz MO replicates the early Soviet plans to build a moonship with several R-7 launches; once in orbit, the Koyuz-MOK spacecraft docks with the MK (Munniy Korabl) munar lander and its attached Block D munar transfer stage (launched on the Koyuz MK vehicle), and then they go to the Mun.

In other respects, the notes included with the Koyuz 1 generally also apply to the MO-1.

A stock rocket called Koyuz MO-1. Built with 134 of the finest parts, its root part is Mk2Pod.

Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.9.0.
