Description
This converted airliner flies up to altitude before releasing a rocket. The rocket flies to orbit.
Simple!
Derived from the earlier Hastur-1, the Hastur-2’s much shorter, lighter fuselage and third engine in the tail let it reach much-higher launch altitudes and get there much quicker (its thrust-to-weight ratio is well over 1 at low altitudes, enabling it to climb quite steeply and still pick up speed), while the enlarged horizontal tail allows for full pitch and pitch-trim authority despite the tail’s shorter moment arm.
The lighter weight does mean that it has a considerably-greater tendency to pull and tilt to the left during takeoff, though (as the mass and weight of the Yellow King rocket under the wing are unchanged, meaning that it makes up a greater portion of the craft’s total mass, causing it to move the Hastur-2’s center of mass further outboard than for the Hastur-1); remember to trim the rudder nose-right (rudder trim is J/L) before brake release, and be prepared to make corrective rudder and aileron inputs during takeoff to keep the plane on the runway.
A stock aircraft called Hastur-2. Built with 145 of the finest parts, its root part is mk3Cockpit.Shuttle.
Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.11.1.
