Description

Not all aircraft have ladders. Maybe you deleted it to save weight, or maybe you simply forgot to put one on. For smaller aircraft, occupants can often still get in and out by retracting the landing gear and then clambering straight from the cockpit door to the ground, or vice versa, but bigger aircraft, or aircraft with the landing gear extended, place the cockpit high out of range of a kerbal on the ground, and make for a bumpy fall for one jumping down from the cockpit door.

The Gangplank is designed to alleviate this problem for small-to-medium-sized aircraft; it carries an underslung boarding platform which, when extended, is high enough for a kerbal to get in and out of a Mk1 cockpit atop an extended LY-10 landing gear. From the boarding platform, kerbals can clamber over the main body of the rover and down the other side using a series of ladders.

The boarding platform is extended and retracted by a hydraulic cylinder at its rear end (press 1 to toggle the cylinder between extended and retracted states), and slides on top of a set of I-beams mounted underneath it.

A stock aircraft called Gangplank. Built with 55 of the finest parts, its root part is roverBody.v2.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.10.1.
