Description
A stock rocket called Fleastack 2DAb3. Built with 391 of the finest parts, its root part is mk1pod.
This is a craft I built ages ago as a self-imposed challenge to get a kerbal into orbit and back using only the RT-5 Flea SRB for propulsion. It was originally made all the way back in 1.2.2, which explains the old-timey design of the Fleas and command pod.
Meaning of the name:
- Fleastack: It’s a big stack o’ 105 Fleas.
- 2: It uses the second core-stages configuration that I tried.
- D: It uses Decouplers to separate the stages (my earliest attempts instead used explosive decoupling, or rocket surgery, where each stage is attached to the one above by a modular girder segment, which explodes from the heat of the exhaust of the next stage up when the latter fires).
- A: It’s more Aerodynamic, as the exposed tops of the Fleas are covered with nosecones to reduce drag.
- b: It has strap-on booster stages of Fleas around the lowest two core stages.
- 3: There’re three sextets of Fleas in the outer ring of the lowest booster stage; alternatively, it’s the third version using strap-on boosters that I tried. (Both are true, and I forget which one contributed to the name - it’s possible both did. Remember, this was ages ago.)
If flown correctly, the second-to-last Flea should get the remaining craft into a stable orbit; the final motor can then be used for the deorbit burn.
Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.10.0.
