stock spaceplane

Description

This spaceplane can make big suborbital hops with the help of its five rear-mounted rocket engines, and carries a couple of gravitometers for taking readings from space, as well as a pair of experiment containers for storing multiple copies of recorded science data. With its sleek planform, Whiplash turboramjet engine, and ample control-surface area, it also does quite nicely in the plane role.

A couple flight-control details:

  • The FV42A has vernor thrusters mounted around the forward portion of the cockpit and on the tailcones of the two wingtip fuel tanks, allowing for RCS control as long as there’s any fuel and oxidiser remaining.
  • To help slow the plane down for landing, it has two pairs of split spoilers (one on each wing), toggled using the Abort action group, which deploy from both the upper and lower wing surfaces simultaneously to increase drag without generating any change in pitching moment.

A stock aircraft called FV42A. Built with 81 of the finest parts, its root part is Mark2Cockpit.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.7.0.
