Description
Unlike my other towships so far, this craft doesn’t have parachutes on any of its four tows (the vehicle as a whole does have parachutes, but those are for soft-landing the recoverable booster core); it’s intended for hooking onto craft or pieces of debris that do have parachutes of their own, but are currently in stable orbits and (say)…
- Don’t have the propellant needed for deorbiting
- Are pieces of debris with no onboard control capability
- Are probe-controlled and have dead batteries (in fact, this craft was originally built to deorbit and soft-land several large rocket stages left in orbit which didn’t have solar panels and whose batteries had gone flat by the time I got around back to them, hence the name)
…etcetera. In these sorts of circumstances, the tows klaw onto the target, providing control, electrical power, and (if necessary) propulsion. If the tow has a useful amount of fuel left after the deorbit burn (a circumstance made more likely by the tows’ efficient-and-non-oxidiser-consuming Nerv engines), it can separate from its original target and reestablish itself in a stable orbit so it can deorbit another craft or piece of debris.
A stock rocket called Electrorbit 1. Built with 206 of the finest parts, its root part is MK1Fuselage.
Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.10.1.
