Description
Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.7.0. Requires MechJeb.
Welcome to Global Dumpling MK1.
GD MK1 is a fuel cell powered manned stock propeller aircraft, which is capable of circumnavigating Kerbin using the fuel of a single dumpling fuel tank! See the album of its circumnavigation here: https://imgur.com/gallery/3NO9kfY
GD MK1’s extremely low-drag, high lift design makes it able to ascend to more than 17,500m.
To fly GD MK1 (Pilot is required):
1) Hit AG1 (This uncouples the engine)
2) Use MechJeb’s SMARTASS app to set bearing, pitch and roll. I suggest 20 degrees to climb.
3) hit ] to switch to engine. Hold down Alt-E until the indicator is all the way to the right. Hit AG 1 again to start the prop.
4) Right click on one of the prop blades and use the pin icon to keep the blade properties on screen. You will need to control the authority limiter throughout the flight
5) Switch craft again to control Mechjeb and raise gear.
6) Watch the rotation speed carefully using the Aero GUI. The sweet spot for GD MK1 is 2750 deg/sec.
7) GD MK1’s cruising altitude is 12,350m and its cruising speed is 258-260 m/s. Set pitch to 0.2 degrees, reducing to 0.1 degrees about half way through the flight (this is to account for weight change as fuel is used up). Authority limiter will be between 5 and 10. In order to glide efficiently, authority limiter must be set all the way down to -150. Do this JUST BEFORE power runs out - after power is gone you won’t be able to control the AL anymore.
8) When attempting a Kerbin circumnavigation, GD MK1 will run out of power about 200 km from KSC. Don’t worry - it can glide the rest of the way, set pitch to -5 degrees or so.
