Description
This is a continuation in my Russian-ized fantasy American space hardware
series, a sort of what if
based on NASA continuing with rocket development and not being constrained by the Space Shuttle as they were in reality. It’s also a sort of personal test for me to see what kind of crazy stuff I can make without using any DLC.
The system launches on a Juneau rocket, whose second stage has enough dV to (just barely) loft the capsule and lander on a Mun intercept trajectory. I haven’t tested the system on Minmus, but I’m positive it could make it there and back. You would just be using some of the Liberty’s service module fuel to do it.
Additional Details
The lander comes with a full suite of base-game science experiments and the service module has a magnetometer too.
You can use the door on the capsule. The EVA button will never work, but manually clicking on the door and selecting
EVA
on the astronaut displayed there WILL work. SQUAD amirite.Action group 5 will deploy the solar panels and antenna.
Note
- The transposition and docking maneuver between the capsule and the lander should maintain appropriate staging. After docking, you can stage twice and the rocket’s 2nd stage will pull away and neatly back itself off using the attached retrorockets.
I had a ton of fun building this system and refining it, and I hope that you enjoy using it just as much.
The next generation in spacecraft, capable of ferrying four intrepid astronauts to the Mun and back.
Features a launch abort system, single-stage Independence
lander, and enough stainless steel to make any internet billionaire take note.
Launches atop a Juneau HLR.
A stock rocket called Liberty-IV STS. Built with 240 of the finest parts, its root part is mk1-3pod.
Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.12.2.
