stock rover

My workhorse science rover. I have driven this model thousands of km on The Mun, Minmus, Duna, Ike, Moho… without taking serious damage. The particular unit in the picture alone has traveled 1000km on Duna. The rover carries a full set stock reusable experiments and can maintain 52m/s on Duna, and 57m/s on Minmus.

In the craft file the rover is secured in a 2.5m fairing with COM aligned.

Notes on driving the rover:
1) When driving the front wheels should have both motor and steering enabled, while the rear wheels only have motor enabled. The external reaction should be set to SAS only, while the core’s internal wheel set to normal, but tuned down so that the rover won’t flip itself.
2) Drive with prograde lock in surface mode. This points the vehicle at the right direction during a jump.
3) When turning left (resp. right) hold down Q (resp. E) at the same time. This uses the reaction wheel to help keeping the rover from flipping.
4) The rover can right itself with the external wheel set to normal.
