Top speed

The top-speed of this E-2 Hawkeye is 272.8m/s with both engines turning and ~230m/s with one feathered (for efficiency, half the fuel consumption but ~80% of the speed). UNEXPECTED PROPELLOR FEATHERING FAILURES (i.e. one of the propellers becoming 100% flat to the airstream or feathering unexpectedly) AT MAX SPEED AND LOW ALTITUDE WILL RESULT IN A CRASH. USE FLY-BY-WIRE/SAS when flying on a single engine

Battle damage resistance

The E-2 hawkeye has demonstrated itself by withstanding a suprising number of direct 30mm shell hits, but it is not designed to survive a hit from any missile. Missile hits will result in immediate and dramatic structural failure. However, this is easily avoided by flying at low heights (missiles tend to hit the water before exploding). This exposes you to ground fire, but ground fire is much more survivable (the cockpit is slightly armored and emergency ditchings are eminently survivable due to the propellers slowing the aircraft down upon contact with water). Still, the advised course of action is to either attack from high altitudes (if there are no enemy fighters) or to fly extremely low and prepare to turn away the moment the aircraft is attacked. Severe propellor failures at low altitude and high speed will result in entering a flatspin that will be difficult to exit from. YOU WILL NOT SURVIVE PROLONGED ENEMY FIRE.

(Caption: E-2 Hawkeye shot down by AIM-9 and F-16. Complete Uncontained engine failure and subsequent detachment, fire, and damage to the tail sealed the fate of this unfortunate plane)

Flight instructions

  1. Right-click both engines. Set torque to 100% (essential for high speed flight, even then, RPMs remain at ~400 at top speed). Lower torques will maximize fuel economy at top speed.
  2. Propellor pitch is bound to throttle, but is 100% manual. You are directly controlling prop pitch, not thrust. Takeoff knowing this.
  3. Fly as normal. The E-2 is certified for any acrobatics and will not exceed the flight envelope in most situations. Extra: If you choose to fly on a single engine, DO NOT UNDEPLOY THE PROPELLOR BLADE YOU WISH TO FEATHER. Instead, right-click the propellor blade and click the ‘#’ symbol in the top-right. Set blade pitch to 90 deg. Do this while SAS/fly-by-wire is on to prevent unintended yaw/roll.

Recommended Use

The E-2 Hawkeye is flexible, capable of performing maritime patrol, air-to-air (in a pinch), and air-to-ground missions in contested environments (you are recommended to use the E-2 in uncontested areas but it can put up a good fight if attacked). The E-2 has 8 hard-points, but due to its lack of an air-to-air locking radar, it is not recommended to occupy those hardpoints with Fox 2/3 (radar-guided) missiles (IR missiles are fair game). Use the AWACS radar to vector friendly fighters to enemy targets, but beware of using it for too long as it presents a significant burden to the aircraft’s electrical systems. If desired, you may add a fuel-cell APU and some oxidizer for extra electrical power. The E-2 has an inline air-to-ground radar for attacking sea/ground targets, but it has difficulties with tracking/detecting air targets. Nevertheless, it is possible to put radar-guided missiles, though it is rather misguided.

Korthop Krumman warranty

As industry leaders in our field, Korthop Krumman is proud to offer an indefinite airframe warranty on our military aircraft. We will offer parts and maintenance if you experience unintended mid-air disassembly, however, this does not include pilot error or battle damage. Also, this warranty will only be valid if the total weight of all the hardpoints is less than 8,000lb. Thank you for your continued business
