Description

The Gavran 644 is designed for hauling large and weighty payloads to all corners of Kerbin. It’s 6 powerful engines provide it with good performance; It can climb at 20 degrees and continue to accelerate. These engines are sufficiently powerful to propel the Gavran to a top speed of 160m/s at 1km altitude. This thing is farcically enormous, at least for a propeller aircraft. Whilst it is certainly capable and practical, any larger and it would not be, and the lag is already a significant issue. I will likely continue development of these larger type cargo planes, though certainly no bigger than this one. Not for a while. Perhaps just one more…

Thanks to Rade for the suggestion of using a fairing for the cockpit. Drag is negated now, or as much as is possible for fairings in 1.4.2

The aircraft takes it’s name after the Serbian word for ‘Raven’, and the ‘644’ designation refers to the number of engines on the craft (6) and the number of reaction wheels per engine (44).

This craft has a Mk1 Lander Can embedded in the cockpit. This is to allow the crew to transfer from the cockpit into the cargo bay and subsequently out of the aircraft.

Press ‘1’ to detach the propellers. For the sake of convenience, they are not counter-rotating, so hold ‘Alt’ and ‘Q’ until fully trimmed and then release them. Once in the air, press ‘2’ on each propeller to adjust the blade pitch, enabling greater speed.

To detach the cockpit, press space the first time and ‘0’ after that. Once detached, switch to the cockpit and press ‘9’ to raise it up. For easier entry in the cargo hold, switch to the main aircraft and press ‘3’ this will lower the front landing gear.

There is a docking port at the rear of the cargo bay, control the aircraft from there.

It is capable of carrying 72 tons of cargo.

A stock aircraft called Gavran 644. Built with 616 of the finest parts, its root part is fairingSize3.

Built in the SPH in KSP version 1.4.2.
