Massive shout out to Commie_Killer76 who made the rover, skycrane and cruise stage! Make sure to check out her KerbalX here: https://kerbalx.com/Commie_Killer76/
Context
On July 30th 2020, an Atlas V rocket in the 541 configuration lifted off from Cape Canaveral in Florida with the Mars 2020 rover, a mission that is scheduled to land in Jezero Crater on February 18th 2021. The Mars 2020 rover (named Perseverance
by Alex Mather) will further our understanding of Mars’ past by searching for signs of previous life on the surface among other things. The rover is complete with a drill arm (for collecting and depositing sample tubes for a potential return to Earth), a small resource converter to produce Oxygen from the CO2 in the Martian atmosphere (important for things like Starship which plans to refuel on Mars) and a small helicopter named Ingenuity
which will be the first vehicle on Mars which is capable of powered flight. In total, the mission cost $2.4 billion dollars and weighs just over 1000kg.
The landing system is similar to the Curiosity landing system which includes a cruise stage on the way to Mars, an aeroshell to protect the rover during entry into the atmosphere and a skycrane which lowers the rover down to the surface before being released

Craft Info
This craft is complete with the Atlas V Centaur 541 made by myself and the Mars 2020 rover including descent components made by Commie_Killer76. The rocket should have more than enough fuel for a Duna transfer at the optimal launch window. After separating the cruise stage from the Centaur, you have about 100m/s in RCS for corrections on the way to Duna. Enter Duna SOI with a periapsis of 15km and separate off the cruise stage near atmospheric entry. Hold prograde until you have reached 300m/s surface velocity and then press AG8 to deploy the aeroshell, the procedure is automatic. After the skycrane and rover separate off from the shell, quickly switch to the vessel and press AG9 to engage the skycrane. Slowly hover down and land (or use mechjeb auto land to make things easy) and as soon as the rover touches the surface, stage to jettison the skycrane. Perseverance has landed!
