Description
A replica of the Atlas Mercury that put the first man in orbit, built and launched in my live stream, updated to be more authentic. Before staging for takeoff hit the Brake to shift the capsule ramp out of the way. The stage and a half can be done at any point, but when the TWR is over 2 is probably more accurate. The rocket should go to about a 70x70km orbit where you ditch the rest of the main rocket. The capsule then floats around by itself until it is time for the re-entry maneuver. Set your maneuver node and use 180ms of braking, shift the maneuver node until it’s end point is where you want it. Hit the Solid Rocket retros at the node, then you can ditch the retro pack. The drogue chute goes off at 3000m, the main chute at 500m. Use action group one to raise the antennae after splashdown.
A stock rocket called Atlas Mercury. Built with 95 of the finest parts, its root part is mk1pod.
Built in the VAB in KSP version 1.3.1.
